determined

Determination; some of us are born with it, some of us need to learn to be determined. Either way, it's good to be determined. As I ran my pathetic 4km this morning, (3 rounds around my condo and 2 times along siglap park connector), I was listening to my music. Lots of time to listen songs which inspire, lots of time to think. I didn't think much though, I just listened to songs which inspire.

Dani California, something new, yet there's an air of a 90-s rock feeling. Maybe there's no screaming frontman, no simply overdriven guitar. Maybe there isnt such a strong guitar line, but the bass line was booming, and unique. The Flea, indeed a legend.

The chords were simple, the buildup to the chorus obvious, not a sudden blast into the chorus, but a slow and steady buildup; I liked it. It wouldn't take anyone long to figure out the chords, but there was one thing which stunned and amazed me. The wah control is so precise. I guess there was overdubbing, but that's not the point. The solo isn't too hard, and it'll sound quite okay without the wah. I think the sound sounded muddy at that time, that was cool. It was probably the neck and body pickup. But it was cool.

The shred picking at the end with the flanger and wah was the crunch. It just- PIAKed the entire solo. It brought the song to a close on a high leaving me wanting for more, and this style of playing should only be used very sparsely. If used too often it gets irritating, but it's cool. And it was really brave of their guitarist, John Frusciante, to have used the wah and flanger then. The control was out of this world.

That concludes the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Stadium Arcadium - out in stores now. Get them while you still can. It's a 28-track double album. That means 2 CDs, and 14 tracks in each. I bet it's worth it.

Eugene.
I think I'm still going out to bike later on. Haha. Then I'll come home to bathe, go to school then to my guitar lesson. Oh yes I have to let Justin listen to the Alterbridge song - Open Your Eyes and let him use his Line6 GuitarPort to decipher the solo. It's fast. But wait till you listen to some Avenged Sevenfold. I can't even remember the sequence. (:
