Today, I shall decide what is blog-worthy and what is not. Or maybe I should do my math. Haha. Now, sentences like that are not blog worhty. I read my post and feel like I'm talking to myself! Oh yeah.
So anyway, here's a line up of events for the time being. After the usual boring school (just that the day ends at 11.55am today), we have sports carnival. Which, I hope, will bring sweet smiles to people's faces. Lets put it this way- I still want to see my house do well. (: Then the parent teacher dialogue thing in the evening. I'm ushering so I won't be going for guitar prac.
Oh yes, have I informed this blog that I'm no longer buying my guitar? Yeah I cancelled the order. Well technically not; I smile after a while of thinking about the $500 and the good buy it'll fetch. But I cringe when I think about how selfish it'd be for taking money outta the bank just to buy this guitar. Anyway I already have my own guitar. Another would just occupy space in my room, but also I now have a les paul! I mean les pauls are soo cool. Don't you think so? That 8-shaped body... heavy, yes I know but it'll be worth the weight.
Well I think I might just get started on math. I'll pretty much wrap it up here.
Oh yes, and on a side note: People, stop listening to useless punk rock. Or stuff like... lets say crazy shit metal bands. Soundgarden, stratovarius or something. I know, I've been in that era, where every morning I wake up to the sound of double-pedal bass drums, mad and stupid guitar solos going on and on and on like nobody's mother, also the out of key singing which I will never appreciate. I just listened cos at that point of time, I liked the feel of the double pedals. Doesn't everyone go through that period of time? The over-over-over-overly heavy distortion. This is not OVERDRIVE folks, it's DISTORTION. There's a difference. And shit this distortion is fucking distorted distortion. I can't make out a thing.
Well I guess what I say here will only serve to tell people who enjoy rock, to listen to bands like Led Zepplin, Guns N' Roses, Deep Purple, Queen... oh and yes how could we forget. Van Halen. THESE have substance; these have the style, these have the music. Now after introducing the real deal to people, I can only hope that people pay attention to my advice. Get over the insane punk rock thing. No more green day, no more MCR, well those are nice if you're going for a temporary high. Those songs with overdriven distortion, and chords specifically chosen to get people high and stuff. How long can they last? The real deal, the real stuff, lies with style, skill and substance.
Yes that explain's my display picture. Slash of Guns N' Roses, and now of Velvet Revolver. If you people appreciate guitar, then here are a few webbies to check out.
All the best in listening to the right music,
Eugene.
http://www.snakepit.org/ - Slash's "Official" Fan Site
http://www.vai.com/ - Steve Vai's webpage. Solo guitarist.
http://www.satriani.com/ - Joe Satriani's webpage. Solo guitarist, Steve Vai's teacher but now his playing mate.
Satriani has great style in playing. He is also teacher of guitarists like Kirk Hammett (for all you metal fans out there), David Bryson (Counting Crows), Larry La Londe (Primus). And many more, I'm sure. For metal people, this is a good alternative.
For those more mystical, soothing or prefer something out of this world, Steve Vai is your man.
And for classic rock, with the classic 90s rock sound, not to mention drug addiction and stuff like that, Slash is your man.
OH AND HOW COULD I FORGET
For people who like ALL the above combined, G3 is your game. G3 is made up of three lead guitarists who tour the world performing and entertaining. Two main and stuck ones are guitarists; Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. The third guitarist is constantly changing. This is something every guitarist should listen to. Split into 2 parts, their concerts feature first, their solo pieces, and next, their group jams; what people have learnt to deem as "The G3 Jam".
Great music will be played, jammed and replayed, pieces like "Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water", or "Neil Young - Rockin In The Free World" and many more have been jammed to. Solos go up to 80% of the whole song. It's great, especially if you get to watch a video of it.
So here's the web for the G3 Live In Denver DVD (2nd DVD they produced). Check out their songs. Live in Denver was performed with Yngwei Malmsteen.

And here we have the web for the G3 Live In Tokyo DVD (latest DVD they produced). Check this out too. Live in Tokyo was performed with John Petrucci of Dream Theatre.

Now the first DVD they produced was with Eric Clapton, in 1996. In my opinion, not worth watching. But it features some of their original sounds.
Live in Denver was performed with Yngwei Malmsteen in 2003,
Live in Tokyo was performed with John Petrucci in 2005.
So there you have it. G3, Guns N' Roses, Solo Guitar, you knever knew music could get any better than punk rock eh (:
